Abstract: 

As required by law, the Internal Revenue Service began notifying thousands of companies and individuals whose tax return information was illegally accessed, stolen, and subsequently disclosed by a former IRS contractor. These victims should consider both their specific rights under federal law as well as the various issues raised by the unauthorized disclosure of personal tax and financial information.
