Abstract: 

Across the globe, governments are beginning to enact age verification policies surrounding pornography exposure to protect children from the possible harmful effects of pornography. This article surveys the policy rationales underlying verification laws, the technology online services employ to verify age and the relative effectiveness of these methods, and the potential pitfalls of requiring users to provide confidential information about themselves in order to access pornography online.
