Abstract: 

In “The Conversation on Guns” (Johns Hopkins Univ. Press, 2023), editor James Densley brings together an eminent group of scholars to explore the role of guns in the United States and the tragic impact of gun violence. Densley is a Professor of Criminal Justice and the Department Chair of the School of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice at Metro State University. He is also co-founder of the Violence Project, a non-partisan, non-profit research center that created a mass shooter database. This article surveys and summarizes this collection of essays addressing the causes and consequences of gun violence, the origins of gun culture in the United States, commonalities in gun crime, and evidence-based solutions to rising gun deaths.
