Abstract: 

This issue of DVR provides important legal updates on coercive control. The article by Bonomi & Martin applies their five-stage framework of recantation beyond abuse-related situations to examine abusers' strategies to influence victims into coercion-related offending. DVR Editor Kelly Weisberg explains the significance of a recent Canadian Supreme Court decision creating the tort of coercive control. Her second article explores a recent Washington state decision that makes it easier for survivors to get protection orders based on coercive control even without the presence of physical violence.
