Abstract: 

There are currently 17 states with sex offender civil commitment laws that have designated specific housing and treatment programming for this population. In addition, other states are either considering or have recently passed legislation that would result in the civil commitment of sexual offenders. This article presents the results of a survey, conducted by the author, of program demographics and characteristics of the 17 states with sex offender civil commitment programs currently in operation.
