Abstract:
The 340B Drug Pricing Program, administered by the Office of Pharmacy Affairs (OPA) under the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA), resulted from enactment of Public Law 102-585, the Veterans Health Care Act of 1992, which is codified as Section 340B of the Public Health Service Act. Section 340B limits the cost of covered outpatient drugs to certain entities, including federal grantees, federally qualified health center (FQHC) look-alikes, and qualified disproportionate share hospitals (DSHs). The primary goals of the program are to improve financial stability and to stretch dollars to serve vulnerable patients. To enroll in the program, an entity must complete a series of steps that determine eligibility. Once enrolled, these covered entities can save from 25 to 50% in outpatient pharmaceutical costs. Keywords: Prime Vendor Program, Inventory Management, antidiversion, Mail-order, Multiple Contract Pharmacy Services Guidelines
