Abstract:
In the past decade, multiple institutes that study drug use and treatment have researched and developed evidence-based models necessary to treat, modify, or minimize substance abuse and the resulting impact on criminal behavior. In 2006, NIDA published 13 research-based principles for treating criminal justice populations. This article describes the effects of drug use on adolescent offenders and offers 13 principles that serve as a guidepost for effective treatment.Keywords: drug use; drug treatment
