Abstract: 

Like the rest of the country America’s prison population is getting older, and the system is facing new challenges that reflect these changing demographics. To assess and evaluate the challenges an older prison population creates for the criminal justice system, an interdisciplinary meeting was organized at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City in 2011, bringing together a range of leaders from academia, medicine, and government. This article summarizes the most important conclusions and policy recommendations on a variety of aging related issues, from compassionate release to dementia screening.
