Abstract: 

This month’s column features judicial decisions involving state guardianship law. The guardianship system varies widely among the states, particularly with regard to such matters as the proposed ward’s right to counsel, the extent to which formal rules of procedure and evidence apply in guardianship proceedings, and the availability of limited guardianships. Thus, while the two cases discussed--- the Massachusetts case In re: Guardianship of Hooker and the Tennessee case In Re: Conservatorship of Groves=== reflect an important interpretation of a particular state’s guardianship laws; they case will not necessarily have broad applicability in other jurisdictions.
